Finding a good cleanser is the first step to fighting acne. A good cleanser will obviously be oil free, but that is not the only criteria you should use when shopping for your cleanser. Does the cleanser contain salicylic acid? Salicylic acid is often found in cleansers that are harder on the skin and meant for people who suffer from severe acne. It is also used in “regular” cleansers though in lesser amounts that are meant to just be strong enough to kill bacteria and wash out your pores. Unfortunately, as you get older, your skin will become more sensitive and using salicylic acid cleansers regularly will be bad so you should save them for spot treatments later on.
Your makeup and other cosmetic items might be oil based. Even your facial cleanser might have oil in it! Oily pores are the reason you are taking steps to clean your face! When you go shopping be sure to look at the ingredients of the different products that you buy. One of the best ways to do this is to opt for powder based cosmetics instead of liquid based cosmetics. Stay away from cleansers that are come in solid forms and choose cleansers that foam up or are lighter lotions than oily and heavy liquids. Use common sense and be careful!
Do not, under any circumstances, pick at pimples or zits when they occur! Pimples and zits should ever be squeezed or picked. You should always leave your acne alone so it will heal properly. You are still allowed to wash your face and treat your breakout with some acne fighters but do not pick at your face or try to pop any of the pimples. Sometimes acne will take a little bit of time to heal. What would you like to see the most? A week or so with a breakout or a lifetime with scars from it?
